Results of the first American Papist Poll
Almost 170 voters participated in this poll, inspired by this post.
- "Servus Servorum Dei" (Servant of the Servants of God) finished far in first, taking over 40% of the vote.
- "Vicar of Jesus Christ" - keeping it focused on the Big Guy - placed a decent second at 22.6%.
- "Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church" - probably favored by those still especially chaffing over B16 deciding to drop his traditional title "Patriarch of the West" - finished 3rd with 16.7%.
- The remaining five titles receiving less than 20% of the vote collectively, with a lone soul placing his vote for "Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman province."
American Papist Poll participants had some clever comments to add:
Clayton: "Have to go with "Chief Monkey of Italy" on this one....er, that is what's meant by primate, right? Right?!?"
Tim: "I knew it would be more Christian to pick Servant of the Servants of God but I have to go with Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church. It sounds so much better than Head Honcho or Big Boss Man, don't you think?"
Bender: "Pontifex Maximus sounds awfully cool though. Also cool is "the Rock," although that's not an official "title."Benedict the Rock, Pontifex Maximus.Yeah, that's way cool."
Marco the Papist: " also liked the title from the old coronation ceremony, "Rector Orbis," ruler of the world, but Vicar of Christ is way cool."
Tom: "really, I just like Holy Father....how much better than that can it get?"
Thanks to everyone who participated!
