New bishop for Lansing?
Dom over at Bettnet is speculating about where Richard Lennon, an auxiliary bishop of Boston, might be headed:Rocco has speculated that Lansing, MI might indeed be his destination, which is my home diocese, so I'm rather interested in the outcome."I also hear, however, that Bishop Richard Lennon may be in line for a promotion. He was apostolic administrator in the time between Cardinal Bernard Law’s resignation and Cardinal O’Malley’s appointment, and had to deal with some difficult issues including getting the parish closing process started. He’s been vicar general since then, but since Fr. Bryan Hehir seems to be O’Malley’s favored advisor right now, it seems he’s been sidelined. So he may be tapped to head up another diocese.
There are quite a few vacancies, including Sioux Falls, SD (since Jan 05), Lake Charles, LA (since Mar 05), Youngstown, OH (since Apr 05), Birmingham, AL (since May 05), and of course Salt Lake City (since Dec 05). Not to mention the 9 arch/dioceses whose bishops are currently serving past the age of 75: Detroit; Raleigh, NC; Davenport, IA; Washington, DC; Springfield-Cape Girardeau, MO; Monterey, CA; Lansing, MI; Superior, WI; and now Baltimore." Well, I guess it's all in Benedict's hands now, isn't it?
Tuesday is the traditional day for episcopal appointments in the U.S....
