WYD Watch: Path of the Cross + 21st WYD!

Cardinal George Pell, archbishop of Sydney, will speak on the challenges and expectations of the Church in Australia with a view to World Youth Day 2008.
On April 9, Palm Sunday and 21st World Youth Day, the delegates and representatives will participate in the Mass celebrated by Benedict XVI in St. Peter's Square. At the end of the Mass, a group of young people from Germany will hand over the World Youth Day Cross to a group of young Australians.
The cross was given to young people by Pope John Paul II on Palm Sunday, 1984.

The visit to Senegal will mark the first time a World Youth Day cross has ever passed through Africa.
The arrival of the cross makes possible "numerous meetings of young people with extraordinary fruits of conversion and reconciliation," explained Monsignor Kohn. "It is like a torch -- like the Olympic torch -- the torch of Christ."
