Cardinal Arinze speaks against the Da Vinci Code... okay.

Update: Joseph Bottum over at the First Things blog has some good thoughts on this one.

Cardinal Arinze recently spoke against the Da Vinci Code in an Italian documentary, as Reuters reports:

"VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - In the latest Vatican broadside against "The Da Vinci Code," a leading cardinal says Christians should respond to the book and film with legal action because both offend Christ and the Church he founded."
Frankly, I don't think this story about Arinze making a few common sense observations really deserves much attention, so I'm not giving it any more.

In fact, during the next weeks I'm counting on reading many more stories all trying to create "buzz" before the Da Vinci Code hits theaters. The common tack these stories seem to take is one of "Hey look, the Church is trying to discredit the Da Vinci Code story because they don't want the truth getting out!"

    Oy! Pass the aspirin...
