Vatican excommunicates the two recently-ordained chinese bishops

VATICAN CITY - The Vatican on Thursday excommunicated two bishops ordained by China's state-controlled church without the pope's consent, escalating tensions as the two sides explored preliminary moves toward improving ties.

Initial reports seem to be conflicting about whether anyone else was excommunicated... st. blogs has more good commentary but I am running out the door right now and will have to analyze the situation later.
