NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigns, questions about his abortion bill remain

He's officially stepping down on Monday.

Family Foundation calls Spitzer "Perhaps the most extreme pro-abortion elected official of his generation" who recently introduced a bill in New York that would have "expanded abortion to a fundamental right" and "would have forced Catholic hospitals to do abortions." "His pro-abortion zealotry is legendary in New York" they conclude. LifeNews also profiled Spizter.

MM reports that this morning Spitzer had been scheduled to speak with abortion advocates.

Some of the legislative provisions Spitzer introduced and supported in his nefarious bill:

    • Allow non-doctors to perform abortions, including a dentist, a social worker, or a health care practitioner.
    • Let girls as young as 12 obtain abortions throughout all 9 months of pregnancy without ever having to tell their parents.
    • Force health practitioners or Catholic hospitals to lose their medical licenses if they don’t perform abortions since they would be denying women the “fundamental right” of an abortion.
More information about stopping this bill here.

I echo MM in hoping that Spitzer's scandal and resignation will contribute to knocking this bill flat on its face.
